What is the global situation?
Latest information states that there are now more than 120,000+ confirmed cases and 589 deaths worldwide.
Reduce the risk of catching or spreading flu.
* Cover your mouth and nose when coughing or sneezing. Use a disposable tissue.
* Dispose of used tissues quickly and carefully, in a bin preferably with a lid.
* Wash your hands frequently with soap and water.
* Clean hard surfaces (e.g. kitchen worktops, door handles) frequently. Use a disinfecting cleaner.
The risk profile of the virus is still being studied but it is already known that the following people are particularly vulnerable:
* people with:
- chronic lung disease,
- chronic heart disease,
- chronic kidney disease,
- chronic liver disease,
- chronic neurological disease (such as epilepsy, multiple sclerosis and Parkinson’s disease),
- immunosuppression (whether caused
by disease or treatment), and
- diabetes mellitus,
* patients who have had drug treatment for asthma in the past three years,
* pregnant women,
* people aged 65 years and older
* children under five years old.
* People with immunosuppression (whether caused by disease or treatment)
* People diabetes mellitus
In the event that a person displays the symptoms of flu they should take paracetamol-based cold remedies to reduce fever and other symptoms, drink plenty of fluids and get lots of rest and seek medical advice.
